This track is NOT accessible from the entrance listed on the map. The trail is being rerouted to prevent traffic congestion in this residential area. It *may* be accessible from the last lookout off the Pali highway on the way to the windward side. Eventually the trail head will be located in Waimanalo, I believe.

So far, this is my favorite hike. Beautiful scenery the entire way. A waterfall to swim in at the end. Moderate hike. Very muddy and slippery when wet. We had a blast as a family.

Hike to Maunawila Falls
Very popular destination for locals and tourist alike but don't let that scare you away.  It is definitely worth the trek.  The trail begins at the back of a neighborhood/subdivision and you park along the street or just outside of the trailhead.  The trail begins on a paved road and then ventures out into the wilderness following the stream the whole way.  There are two river crossings that we found.  Keep an eye out for metal sign posts.  Many of the actual signs were removed when we went but the post served as a great marker for when we should cross. There are a couple of steep climbs and metal/fiberglass plates have been place to help make steps but these are washed out in many areas and a path to the side has been worn.  If it has recently rained, you will be in the river mud most of the way and trying to balance on slippery river rocks on the trail.  Again, it is worth it.After a final, steep climb, you will descend to the river, waterfall, and swimming hole.  Swim across to the waterfall and scale the rock and jump in!  It is awesome!  Some ventured to the very top and took a plunge but this is for the bravest of daredevils.  Not knowing the depth I declined the taunt to give it a try even though they were all successful!
