Today we were 9 hikers. Sunny weather. We started off by getting the keys for the church to have look at it. The church was once part of a monastery and is from 1300. It is beautiful. We left the village and walked up to the viewpoint above it. The views are beautiful. After that the real hiking started. It goes up, up, up all the way to Cime de la Cacia. On the way up we stopped for a fruit break at 11. By 12:10 we had reached Cime de la Cacia! We are at the top of the world with 360 degrees of breathtaking views. Worth every step up. After lunch, on the cime, ready to go down we spotted our first Cowslip for this year. We had Hepatica and Dogtooth violet as well on the way down. The path down is nice through the woods on the north side of the mountain. We came down to the main road and headed to the Clue de Riolan. One of the most fascinating canyons in Europe, maybe the deepest. We walked down to the Roman bridge across the river Riolan. It’s a historical monument. The path across it leads to Sallagriffon. After admiring the canyon we walked back on the GR510 to Sigale, and got to the cars by 16:05. It’s a fabulous hike!

Quite an exiting hike this. The trail goes straight up in the sky. A beautiful view from the top all the way to the sea and the Esterel mountains in the west.

I love this hike because of the scenery and the flowers. Today we found the Lilium bulbiferum, an orange lily with a magnificent flower. Never seen that here before. Lilian pomponium, Red Lily, was also out but I’ve seen that here before in June. The hike is varied and goes along a crêt, up and down and over many grassy pastures. All the time you can see miles around you. In May you’ll find peonies. Today we had masses of St. Bernard’s Lily, Anthericum liliago , Sandlilja or maybe it was St. Bruno’s lily, Paradis lilja, Paradisea liliago.
