The north route is what people do to summit pico de Águila. We came back through the south route based on the advice of a person that knows the place better, but we doubt it was easier.
Pico de águila has an amazing view of the crater and the two lagoons. We have little information before going to the hike, but it seemed possible to loop around the crater:
