Fantastic short hike! This is the Echo Canyon trail in Chiricahua National Monument. It’s less than 4 miles long with an elevation change of about 500 ft. But keep in mind: It’s a loop, so you have to walk back up!

We got an early start from the Visitors Center. The hike was a steady climb and grew more challenging at the higher altitude because of ice. Plenty of birds and changing plant life. I’d call it a moderate hike, well worth it for the geologic formations and the views in all directions. I drank 2 liters on the way up, so I’d say bring plenty of water and a hat for the open areas.

Beautiful area to hike. There are some elevation changes on the hike. We hiked the trail “clockwise” which means we had a steeper exit to the hike. If you go “counter clockwise” you start with the steep section. The neat views and rock formations are at the step sections of the trail

This is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking hikes in Arizona. Elevation gain is 560 feet. Go to grotto area first and keep hiking down to the Echo Park area. Hike back up is easy on a well maintained trail.

This place is amazing. I’ve been to Yellowstone and Yosemite, as well as most of the big parks in WA and OR. This park tops them all. Do the outer loop trail, and the Heart of the Rocks and Inspiration Point trails. it is worth every step of the almost 10 miles.
