Nice hike up a lava crater. Hike is easier than it looks from the parking lot as there is a good trail up the backside so scrambling on the black lava rock isn’t necessary. It is hot and exposed even in Feb.

(Almost) the most you can do in a day in Mojave. Afton Canyon is scenic, and in 80 miles we saw 3 vehicles... and only on the busiest sections. Beautiful desolation and solitude.

Lots of side roads off of the Mojave that we hadn’t explored. Found some great stuff.

Mojave Road, through Mojave National Preserve, has some epic views, some great obstacles and some killer camping spots. Not gonna say it was my favorite trip due to the fact that 75% of the driving was washboard washes with woopdido’s. Hard on the rig and not super fun cause you hardly break 15 miles an hour and that’ll put you to sleep. Otherwise the camping was sick just south/west of the lava tubes in a canyon, cul de sac. The river crossing was pretty cool and the expansive views were epic. Overall I gave it 3 stars.
