An excellent little backcountry trail that goes entirely around the lake and has access and views to other pristine lakes. Pretty dense foliage, but the trail was signed and relatively easy to follow. Pretty rocky and rooty with some descending and ascending necessary. I'd call this a moderate hike and not for someone that is out of shape.

We got on our bikes at 4:45pm on 8/18/23 and did the Pancore Lake Loop and had the best time ever for 2 hours riding through the forest on pretty good trails but requiring some maneuvering around rocks, a few wet spots/mud puddles and up and down hills and curves!Temp was 75 degrees and I wore a thin light long sleeve summer shirt and my husband a short sleeve tshirt. Both of us had summer weight pants on and tennis shoes/socks. Sprayed with bug spray before we left but they weren’t too bad. We used the Gaia GPS app to help guide us around, but there are some signs too. We wore sunglasses to protect eyes from bugs or branches. This was our first time on e-bikes and it was easy to get the hang of them quickly. Seat very comfortable. Bring a waist hiking bag for keys, water bottles, and a charged phone. We would definitely do this again!! Staff was very helpful .

Beautiful area, a few motor boats had fun with making waves for us. Our Northern Tier Interpreter was phenomenal.

Great views. Footpath is rocky and uneven. Some places are steep and require sure footing. We didn’t make it to the lookout point but that would be a good day hike and place to turn around

Favorite lake on the boundary waters. If fishing always a good lake for fishing. If in good shape you can make it in one day, approx. 9-10hrs. Wind is usually to your back heading in. When heading out, go early and try to avoid the wind as it comes from the west. Alice, Insula and Hudson lake can be brutal with wind. Alice and Insula are larger lakes, Hudson is smaller but in the burn area and there is not break from the wind. Use common sense and have fun.

Not for the beginner!
George Crosby-Manitou is beautiful and the backpack campsite options are such a great option for beginners or families!
Coming out of Crosby was quite the ascent. Fire up your glutes and quads!
Between Crosby and Cross River the hike is mild and then it picks up heading to Temperance. After you’ll get another shot of shock to your leg muscle climbing to Carlton Peak! Wow a difficult climb but a rewarding views at the top!

This wasn’t a hike exactly. It was mostly a canoe trip. Lots of portages that qualify as mini hikes though. Some of them were pretty brutal after we’d been paddling against the wind.
Beautiful, peaceful area. I’d go back there right now if I could.

Great hike up to the overlook!
Loved the forest on the way up and wow wow wow! The expansive view of the forests and the big lake below!
A week earlier and we would have seen the full fall color show!

Beautiful winter wounderland in Minnesota’s BWCA Superior National Forest. MN’s highest point.
Attempted this hike a year ago with -20° & very windy (doable with good clothes & boots). About 2/3 rds way, at Whale lake, snow became too deep and we didn’t have snow shoes.
Today it was +19° and calm with fresh snow. Stunning. Made it to the top. Snow shoes not needed today. From Whale Lake junction up to summit we did use Yaktrax - like ice cleats on our boots as terrain gets steeper and uneven with rocks beneath snow. Hiking poles helpful this last section too. No problem following the trail & Gaia worked great. Amazing,, but at the summit we had cell phone and data reception. But not along the trail or at trail head though.
Fresh snow hanging heavy on trees and view from near top make this hike a must do in the winter.
