Peaked Mountain from 13th Lake Adirondacks fall color hike
A favorite and varied fall color hike for the end of September. Starts with a lakeside walk for a mile, heads up a boulder strewn side stream, passes a beaver pond and several marshy areas, reaches Peaked Mountain Pond, and then heads 600 steep feet up to the beautiful ledges of Peaked Mountain with their splendid 270 degree views. Our 5 1/2 hours included well over an hour of just soaking in the glory all to ourselves and enjoying our lunch as others started to arrive.

Although the majority of the trail was pretty flat and the ascents and descents were gradual and not steep - there were some sketchy water crossings and it was impossible to keep your feet dry. good hike overall.

Nice intermediate ski trip both in length and difficulty. With good snow anyone would love this beautiful trail.

Climbing the Balm of Gilead Mtn
I don’t get out of dense urban life much. I love this hike for its short (but steep) path to a great view. It feels off the beaten track & secluded. At the pine-forested balm, you end up on top of huge, pitted boulders — absolutely ideal for relaxing. The path up follows a small stream and was very muddy today in the rain. On this hike I scrambled down the steep face into the valley of deep leaves below, adding distance. Fall foliage is divine!
