Typical Texas tunnel hiking. Thick canopy. Leaves and tree trunks. Dense. It was a warm December day. Not much water.

Not much to see here. Typical east Texas thick canopy and more or less a long tunnel. Nobody else was here today. Not too many places for dogs to stop and drink. Trails not well kept but not bad. Other than Winter Creek crossing there is nothing really. Lots of roots.

Secluded sections & winding hiking area with tons of potential, and tons of invasive wildlife.
It's beautiful, and I love the way the sections are created in dense thickets to offer up an illusion of seclusion. The area had a variety of densely forested pineywood thickets, with native flowers and shrubs all over. It seriously needs a prescribed burn, and a local government-sponsored cleanup. Found a crackpipe whilst on a hike, along with hyacinths galore, trash, debris, and invasive-noxious vines. With just a little attention from our lackluster government Rec Department, this place could become amazing. Still worth it to go and hang out with some buddies, not worth it on your own.

Great hike through a very desolate forest, the entire time I was out there I didn’t see anyone me besides a group of a few people with a kid. Most of the hike was very peaceful & quite & you feel very alone with your thoughts, great trail.

This trail was absolutely amazing for ATV riding my son and I had a blast best part about it is there is not a whole lot of mud the trails have plenty of twists and turns and small mounds to make it a very fun ride

Nice hike with pretty sandy creek crossings and very modest elevation gains. Mosquitoes were persistent in late May but not in clouds and not an issue while moving. Not too wet, but a few muddy stretches. Great birding in the earlier hours. Didn't see anyone else on the section beyond the forest service road.

We hiked the full loop 29 mile loop yesterday. The first 6 or so miles from the LSHT #1 in Richards to the intersection with the pond is fantastic. I even had a breakdown fishing pole I brought and was able to catch a few perch.
However, beyond the pond this turns in to swamp, the trail is terribly maintained (we had to back track multiple times to find it with fallen trees everywhere in the middle of the swamp, and everytime you stop the mosquitos are all over you), the mosquitos come out in droves, and the thorny vines/shrubs get worse and worse the further you go, and if it had rained at all recently your shoes will be soaked crossing the creek over and over. Stick to the first stretch and call it a day. The rest is miserable.

It’s passable when it’s not muddy. But once the trail gets muddy you can get stuck. Plenty of trees to winch yourself out.

Super easy loop! Has a few water/mud holes, a tiny technical section, and a spot where you can haul butt on!
